Two ways to measure it yourself

Pick whichever suits you. For a surprise, method 1 is ideal: quietly "borrow" a ring they already wear.

1 Measure a ring you own

By inner diameter

Most accurate · perfect for surprises

  • 1 Take a ring that fits well on the correct finger.
  • 2 With a ruler, measure the inner diameter in millimetres.
  • 3 Find that number in the chart below for your size.
2 Measure your finger

With string or a paper strip

When you don't have a ring handy

  • 1 Wrap a paper strip or string around the base of the finger.
  • 2 Mark where it closes and measure that length in mm (circumference).
  • 3 Compare it to the "circumference" column in the chart.

Tips for a true measurement

Small details that make the difference between "it fits" and "it fits perfectly".

Measure at day's end

Fingers swell slightly; the afternoon size is the most realistic.

Hands at normal temperature

Cold shrinks the finger. Avoid measuring with chilly hands.

Wide bands, go up a half size

A thick band (3 mm+) fits tighter; consider a half size more.

Measure 2–3 times

Repeat at different moments and average for confidence.
